Project C2 – Differential impact of key‐anthropogenic drivers on the deterioration of Pontocaspian biodiversity – >GiMaRIS Leiden – ESR > Anouk d’Hont – Supervisor >Dr Arjan Gittenberger:
Some of the main drivers for the Anthropocene biodiversity crisis in Pontocaspian species are habitat destruction, pollution and invasives. However, the differential impact of these key drivers in space and time is not well understood. The project therefore uses a combination of field and molecular methods in four selected near‐coastal areas over a period of almost three years to quantify the impact of anthropogenic drivers such as siltation, eutrophication, invasives and pollution. The project provides an important baseline for a low‐impact biodiversity monitoring system in the Pontocaspian region.
